Kristen JoinerExecutive Team
Kristen Joiner is Director of Impact Investment at Enterprise Angels. A social entrepreneur and non profit executive, Kristen has domain expertise in sustainability, affordable housing, gender and human rights. Kristen has co-founded and led a series of social and environmental ventures garnering multiple awards – including Scenarios USA, an NGO that disrupted best practice in sex education; Badger Rock, a holistic charter intermediate school/community center set on an urban farm in a state-of-the-art sustainable building, teaching core subjects through project-based environmental projects; and Mpower, a model public/private sector climate change partnership. Kristen stepped down as ED with AGE Africa in Malawi/Washington D.C. to move with her family to New Zealand in 2017.
Raised by academic parents turned entrepreneurs in Madison, Wisconsin, Kristen credits her parents and family camping adventures for a love of innovation, community, and nature. Kristen, who speaks three languages, intentionally immersed herself in positions – from working for Habitat for Humanity on the U.S./Mexico border to evaluating international development projects in Senegal – to increase her understanding of the impact of systemic poverty and racism. She believes everyone has a story and everyone has a purpose. Kristen’s book about – and co-written with – Judy Heumann, a civil rights leader for disability, is due out March 2020 with Beacon Press. Kristen’s work has been featured in The New York Times, The Today Show, Stanford Social Innovation Review, and others.
